Nora Ellison

Nora Ellison is the editor of CouplesGames.org and the co-creator of Loopy, the couples card game she and her husband Ben built from a shoebox of index cards. She writes every guide on this site and plays each game for at least three evenings before it gets a verdict.

Before games, Nora taught high school English in Montana for eight years. That is where she learned that the best questions are short, specific and a little bit brave, and that nobody opens up to a question that sounds like a survey. She wrote most of the prompts in Loopy's five decks and still rewrites the ones that fall flat at the table.

What does Nora write about?

Nora covers question and conversation games, date nights at home, long-distance games, spicy card games and gift picks for couples. Her rule for every review is simple: say who a game is for, who should skip it, and what actually happened on night three, when the novelty has worn off.

  • Favourite game that isn't ours: Codenames Duet, because losing together is underrated.
  • Most-used Loopy deck at home: Talks. Ben would say Kisses.
  • Pet peeve: question decks that ask "What is your love language?" and stop there.
